LIANE – internships in Augsburg

In June 2015 five students from the partner universities visited the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) Germany for a two week internship as part of the LIANE project. Together with a group of AUAS students they did a planning exercise for two identified neighbourhoods within the corridors in Muhanga and Mlolongo with the aim to incorporate sustainable upgrading and planning strategies. The focus for the intervention was on densification, mixed use, well-designed grids, well-developed public spaces and streets, better quality of housing and the use of sustainable construction materials. Excursions in and around Augsburg as well as to Munich were organized to allow the students an understanding of the different cultural context and an improved view on how these cities developed over time. The students also attended a German language course to learn basic language and grammar skills.
